About This Project
Seven years in the making, The Vogel Tradition is a labour of love preserving our family's recipes, stories, and connections across generations.

Meet Alecia
The curator behind The Vogel Tradition
In 2018, during a visit with her grandfather Harry in Campbell River, Alecia borrowed a blue folder containing family letters and photographs dating back over 140 years, along with her grandmother Mary's recipe boxes and a Watkins family photo album.
What started as curiosity about family history evolved into a seven-year journey of research, connection, and preservation. Through genealogical research and unexpected reunions with long-lost relatives, Alecia has pieced together stories that had been missing for generations.
The Vogel Tradition honours Mary's practice of collecting and preserving recipes from family members, ancestors, friends, and neighbours—keeping everyone's food traditions alive while documenting our family's past and present.
What's Inside The Vogel Tradition
Family Recipes
The first part features recipes from Grandma Mary's kitchen, along with recent favourites submitted by relatives and family friends. Just like Mary's recipe boxes filled with newspaper clippings and handwritten cards, this collection keeps everyone's food traditions alive.
Family History
The second part includes an updated family tree, biographies of our ancestors, and current photos and notes on relatives today. Some stories are pieced together from records and archives; others were passed down in conversation or shared while writing this book.
Be Part of the Story
